Long life Celebrated

There were a few tears and choked voices yesterday when I presided at the funeral of a 93 year old man who had 5 children and lived long enough to see 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. It was a time only for gratitude and memory. I was there because of connections with my brother and I did not even know all the family. But for me, it was a grace to celebrate his life as a larger manifestation of the enormity of the gift of life. In the midst of Iraq, Katrina/Rita, scandals in so many institutions, especially close in our church, I found a welcome few moments of perspective which allowed me to see forever. And its was a very clear day.
